I feel my parents made some decent money, but it is not very good to most of the other Indians around us because both wife and husband work in their family and they started life in the US a lot younger then my parents. Some of them now feel jealous of my parents because they have to get their kids educated and married. The important thing in life is to be comfortable not money. Be with family and friends who can support you. I see a lot of answers where they say stay in the US as long as you can, but please remember about yours kids. If they grew up here how can they adjust to go back to India? Even for you if you lived here for 10 years how can you adjust going back to India.
I don’t really feel bad that my parents don’t have a lot of money as the other around them do. I did loose out on making friends and maybe a girl friend. I see most of these ABCD’s have no value about friends and family so most of their relationship fade out. I do see that most of guys who just came from India always help out there friends even tho they are hundreds of miles away. That for me is commendable and if that can only be achieved in India I say India is the place to be. I have been in the US since 2005, and had to struggle through various tough phases to get a respectable job and a life here. Filed for my Green Card in 2013 and have been regularly extending my H1-B every 3 years. I am married and have a kid who is a citizen here. Wife is on H4 and has an EAD that came with the H4 because of the Obama era rule. In 2017 when our visas were up for renewal we filed our petitions in early April knowing that our visas were ending in July. Our lawyers/employer were not competent enough to file our H1B early enough knowing that the H4 EAD will not be valid if it passes the validity date.( I have been egging them on since early February to file).
Both of our education is done and my sister got married. I am still looking for someone to get married to and my parents are still in the USA saving up money for me. Now my parents have lived in the USA for more than 20 years and are US Citizens. They are wondering if they can go back to their home in India, which they can barely remember. As for me growing up was very though. I didn’t make a lot of friends. We were never sure how long we can stay here. All of this was happening when I was 14–20 years. I feel that I lost a lot of fun/excitement everybody should have. I was always scared. I was a poor student. I struggled very hard and finally got a good job. The Indian guys who are in the process of getting a green card hate me. The ABCD guys don’t really talk to me because they think they are better me because I have a little accent and my English is not very good as you can read.
