This year, those fittings resulted in a wide range of styles. For the main ceremony, Bolden dressed Hudgens in a vintage strapless Chanel dress; He also put Jordan in a sleek Louis Vuitton suit with two ornate brooches. “We wanted to go super dapper, super smart—easy Hollywood,” says Bolden of the latter look. “Nothing pretentious about it.” For the after-party ensembles, he embraced the experimental. He dressed Yara Shahidi in a red leather dress adorned with floral appliqué from Bottega Veneta (with matching gloves), and Carpenter in a sheer Paco Rabanne gown with embellishments covering the bust. “The after-party looks are when you can take it to the max, and be a little more playful and wild,” says Bolden. For her first time attending the Academy Awards, Bailey Bass, the breakout star of Avatar: The Way of Water, chose to wear a gown that reflected her commitment to sustainability. “We only have one planet,” Bass said. “And today, we are proving sustainability is beautiful.” The dress—designed by Zac Posen in partnership with RCGD Global, the environmental initiative founded by Suzy Amis Cameron— was indeed beautiful. With poet sleeves and a sweep train, the silhouette and ivory fabric recalled early screen sirens like Veronica Lake and Lauren Bacall. “I wanted a timeless, sexy, old Hollywood inspired dress,” Bass said. “My stylist, Andrew Gelwicks, immediately thought of Zac Posen. I was already a fan of his work from Precious Lee’s look at Vogue World.”
“In these archives you have artistic masterpieces: some of the photographs here have become cultural icons. And they are still the source of inspiration to so many.” So said François-Henri Pinault in Venice last night at the private view of “Chronorama,” an exhibition dedicated to airing a 70-year trove of Condé Nast archive photography and illustration that was acquired by the Pinault Collection in 2021. Presented at the Pinault Collections’s Palazzo Grassi and supported by Saint Laurent, “Chronorama” illustrates how the snapshot moment of the contemporary can become a culturally embedded symbol that lives on to inform, enrich, and enable the future. Curated by Matthieu Humery, the exhibition brings oxygen to around 400 works published across Condé Nast titles including Vogue, Vanity Fair, House & Garden, GQ, Mademoiselle, and Glamour between 1910 and 1979. Beginning in the golden age of fashion illustration with Helen Dryden, George Wolfe Plank, and Eduardo Garcia Benito amongst the stars of their time, then unfolding into the epoch of photography via Edward Steichen, Berenice Abbott, Cecil Beaton, Lee Miller, André Kertész, Horst P. Horst, Diane Arbus, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, and David Bailey, amongst others, the exhibition is an exhaustive and revelatory historical record of cultural and social evolution in the 20th century.
“The Café de la Paix project is an excuse to tell everybody when and how K-Way was invented,” Boglione said. “The brand is almost 60 years old and we always promote the product, and not the history of the brand, so I think it was very important to underline how strong and deep the history of the brand is.”
