As for extra interesting, well, let’s just say that when I’m on anti-anxiety medication, I make even more interesting and different wardrobe choices. I can’t say I approve of any of the “drug selected” combinations of clothing I wore, but they were pretty interesting I suppose. I think that jeans are a really versatile piece of clothing that can be dressed up or down, and they are also really comfortable. I think that Americans tend to gravitate towards clothing that is comfortable and easy to wear, and jeans definitely fit that bill. I recall having lunch with Freeman Dyson. After lunch, I thought about it. Dyson had been very quiet, except when asking a few key penetrating questions. I had been flattered that he had been interested in my answers, and I had talked on and on and on. Dyson seemed to have enjoyed the lunch, and he seemed eager to sit down with me at subsequent opportunities, but I realized, although he may have learned a few things from me, I had learned almost nothing from him. Because I’ve gotten those stares, and it’s a lot more tolerable when you don’t feel so exposed. I’ve always just liked brighter colors, and because of my Asperger’s, I already stand out as different. Dressing differently is how I can freely express myself without the same filter I have to put on my words. That being said, I have no life responsibilities. If I had to go to work, I’d have to wear regular work clothes, but because I’m unemployed, nobody can fire me for wearing bright and colorful sundresses all the time and dressing like I’m always happy (the colors actually help my mood. It’s not that I don’t feel sadness, it’s just that wearing more depressing colors adds to that, while yellow is the most uplifting color of all). For most people, they have a dress code at their workplace, possibly even a uniform. They become so used to a set of rules dictating what they can and can’t wear, that they don’t even buy clothes that don’t fit “the rules”.
